Job Summary
Temporary Position Operates Hospital telephone system to relay incoming, outgoing and inter office, interdepartmental calls; performs cashiering functions and miscellaneous Hospital communication and clerical duties; greets patients and visitors; determines their needs and directs to appropriate area or individual.
Responsibilities
• Involvement in activity associated with Hospital postal system
• Receives all incoming telephone calls; directs calls to appropriate area
• Maintains postage meter processing
• Participates in sorting and counting all first class pre-sort mailings
• Promptly answers phone calls and dispatched accurately, professionally and courteously; always follows up if a response is delayed
• Follows established guidelines in responding to various types of calls/ requests/emergencies/ various code situations
• Places long distance calls for authorized hospital personnel
• Records messages accurately and clearly; follow up to assure messages are received promptly
• Responsible for all emergency code calls; responds with expediency and efficiency
• Uses correct English when communicating
• Answers routine telephone inquiries concerning Hospital functions and services; places outgoing calls as requested; provides receptionist support
• Provides requested information promptly or refers inquiry to appropriate area or individual
• Observes Hospital confidentiality and guest relations policies when processing inquiries
• Assists patients/hospital personnel with local and long distance telephone information
• Maintains contact with those individuals waiting and provides information as appropriate
• Reports any outstanding follow up information and new information to oncoming shift
• Uses Hospital intercom system to voice page Hospital staff and physicians; places calls for "beeper" pagers
• Performs cashier function as necessary; Performs miscellaneous clerical duties
• Observes established procedures in use of intercom system
• Pages in a clear, well-modulated voice to ensure understanding
• Use of intercom system is consistently prompt, accurate and courteous
• Follows established Hospital policy for handling cash and collecting money and at shift balancing
• Accurate in cash transactions; Accepts credit cards, using appropriate forms; follows up
• Maintains accurate and current logs and reports for Admitting and Communications departments
• Assures all necessary supplies are available at switchboard
• Consistently attends departmental meetings
Required Skills/Abilities
• Must have effective verbal communication skills; must be able to speak clearly and distinctly, using correct English
• Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations with mature, careful judgment
Education & Experience
• High School graduate or equivalent
• Additional education and training in use of telephone systems, typewriters and general business office equipment and routines required or the facility will provide orientation to the point of competency
• Six months of prior experience as telephone operator, receptionist or in a related field required
Job Type: Temporary Position
Full-time, Variable Shift
Pay: $22.00 to $24.00 hourly
